Using Movie Maker is easier than it looks.  Once you understand that you have a collection to create by adding digital assets such as: video, still images, and sounds, you are on your way to creating an original classroom video.

This "Hub" is designed to be a dabble class to encourage novice movie makers to turn these skills over to the students who will become "prosumers" of the content of their learning.

Supported file types

(from the Microsoft Help files in Movie Maker)

You can add content to your Windows Movie Maker project either by capturing content directly in Windows Movie Maker or by importing existing digital media files. The content you capture in Windows Movie Maker is saved in Windows Media Format. However, you can also import existing Windows Media-based content as well as other common file formats.

You can import files with the following file name extensions into Windows Movie Maker to use in your project:

  • Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
  • Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf
  • Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

Using Movie Maker with DE Streaming editable clips:

PhotoStory
An all-time teacher and student favorite for creating original video and music is Microsoft's FREE program, PhotoStory. While planning a project or final assessment, challenge the students to create their findings through a digital story.  This manner of explanation is an attention getter and affords students the ability to be creative.  A PhotoStory creation can be extremely simple and completed in under 10 minutes OR it can be a month long project paying particular attention to detail from the storyboarding to the editing sophisication buit into the program. PhotoStory makes its easy to produce original works allowing us to stay copyright free.  Be sure and share your productions.

How nice to see you again! I still want to figure out how to spend my certificate with you. I am attending the other trainings later. Maybe I will figure out what I need help the most with since if I tell you "everything", you might think that a touch too broad!

This is in reply to the Movie Maker follow up. After going through that training I really had minimal ideas about how I could incorporate that into the lesson, but after attending the Digital Fair Share I can see a lot more posibilities. I now plan on using movie maker as well as a lot more technologicaly based ideas in my lessons for the upcoming year. Thank you for having that fair. It was great.
